Will They Legalize Cannabis?

Do you think they will legalize cannabis? What will happen to the prison system since many men are locked up under the three-strikes rule? Will they be released once it is legalized?

They have been talking about legalizing cannabis, but my question to you all is: was it ever a harmful drug in the first place? In my opinion, it wasn’t. Cannabis has many medicinal properties when administered correctly. Back in Jamaica, it was used to cure illnesses; people would make tea, cook with it, or even smoke it. Bob Marley used it for inspiration. So why did it become a hated plant?

In the 70s, cannabis was part of the era of love, a time when we were trying to get along.

Weed was the black man’s choice of drug, while speed and ecstasy were popular among whites. If both were deadly, why were so many black men imprisoned for smoking and selling weed, while fewer white counterparts faced the same fate?

To destroy love, another tool had to be introduced. In the 80s, deadly drugs like crack cocaine and meth were brought in. This was another way to target the black race and put us in prison. Crack cocaine was introduced to poor black communities, while meth was introduced to poor whites. These drugs, once considered elite drugs for the rich, ended up in the hands of poor people looking for an escape. It’s easier to sell in smaller doses than one big one; having ten addicts quickly becomes 1,000 because they will keep coming back. The proliferation of these drugs devastated communities, creating a cycle of addiction and incarceration.

It’s ironic that cannabis farms are now becoming a lucrative source of income for white people, while for blacks, it was historically used to hold us back. They knew all along that cannabis was never a Class A drug. It’s not killing people like fentanyl, crack, cocaine, heroin, meth, K2, ecstasy, and other drugs, which have been much more detrimental and have killed more quickly.

It’s funny how big pharma can provide us with legal drugs that can kill us, and we don’t think anything of becoming their clients as we pop those pills into our mouths. Yet, street drug dealers have clients because those clients want to get high. Hmmmm! Someone is making big bucks, so who is double-dipping? Where are the street dealers getting their drugs from?

How can we combat this drug problem? It starts with valuing yourself and wanting better. Did you not learn anything from your family members who have died or are in prison? Why would you want the same fate? Why would you choose a life of pain and anguish because you believe there is no way out? There is always a way out. Why don’t you be the light in the darkness and make that change?

Take charge of your life and break the cycle. Educate yourself, seek support, and strive for a better future. Surround yourself with positive influences and stay away from harmful environments. Embrace opportunities for personal growth and development. Your life matters, and you have the power to create a brighter future for yourself and your community. Be the change you wish to see.
